I BOUGHT THIS AND IT WAS 199.00. 2 MONTHS AGO. I ALSO GOT A RE-FURB. FOR 170.00 wHATS WITH THIS INCREASE? WE ARE IN A RECESSION.

The first one failed the day we installed it. Amazon was excellent about shipping another unit. I’ll try it again to see what happens this time.

Not being an audiophile or a high tech guru, I failed to fully understand all of the factors when adding a speaker to a T.V.. For example, my Panasonic T.V. has a function that automatically reduces the volume when commercials are on. That function only works, however, when the T.V.’s speaker is used. So I lost that function when I added the Zyvox speaker. More importantly, though, I assumed that the Zyvox could be hooked up to the T.V. itself. Again, I found out that my T.V. does not have an analog connection, and the Zyvox could not be connected directly to the T.V. for that reason. The alternative is to connect the speaker directly to the cable box, which I had to do. While that sounds like a reasonable alternative, doing that defeats another function of the Zyvox. If the Zyvox is hooked directly to the T.V., it will power on and off automatically when the power button on the Zyvox is in the standby mode. When the speaker is hooked directly to the cable box the sound is on constantly. To turn the Zyvox off, you have to turn the cable box off or turn the speaker off manually. I have the Zyvox in an area that is inconvenient to reach, so I have to turn the cable box off each time. Finally, I was impressed when reading the reviews regarding the ability of the Zyvox to produce “surround” sound. I can assure you that no matter how I adjust the PhaseCue button I do not hear anything close to “surround” sound. In fact, if I turn that button all the way to the right I get a very “tinny” sound.
A friend of mine has the Vizio sound bar, and I am quite impressed with it. It has decent bass, has a surround sound feature that actually sounds like surround, and also has a feature that automatically reduces commercial volume. The only reason I didn’t get it is because of it’s size. It is simply too long to fit on the table where I have my T.V.. The Vizio can be hooked directly to my T.V. with either RCA cables or an optical cable. At this time the Vizio is selling for half the price of the Zyvox. I would return the Zyvox, but according to Amazon’s return policy I would have to pay for the return shipping and would not be credited with a full refund because I used it.
In the future I will better educate myself regarding the specific details of a product before I buy it. Apparently, most of the other reviewers did so and are quite happy with the Zyvox.

I hooked up the ZVOX and it didn’t work. I called ZVOX and the representitive reviewed all my hook-ups and determined everything was hooked up correctly. He downloaded my TV instruction book and read how I had hooked up the ZVOX and again determined evrything was hooked up properly. He said he would reread my manual and e-mail what he felt I should do. I never heard from him. I shipped the product back to Amazon. Amazon refunded my purchase price and shipping.

The bass on this i will say is great but the sound wasn’t actually as good as on my tv. it might just be because the speakers on my tv are quite good compared to others. When put to work with my blu-ray player the sound didn’t really sound HD like. it sounded muffled compared to my tv speakers.
this may be different for you but my experience with this wasn’t great.
