Samsung HT-X810 2.1 Channel Sound Bar Home Theater System
I bought the system from Amazon. The product was delivered promptly and in good packing. I wish that I had know that the system is limited to delivering sound through the sound bar and the remote sub-woofer, which does not have separate sound controls and that the system cannot be connected directly to more speakers, but probably can through a receiver/amplifier. I found the Samsung on line help function difficult to navigate to a satisfactory solution.

My Samsung plasma TV was purchased because of its reputation of superior picture and sound quality, that I found out was unfortunately undeserved.
To improve the sound quality I purchased the Samsung HT-X810 2.1 sound bar home theater system because it had a compatable remote control for my Samsung TV. Again there was great disappointment. The sound was slightly better because of the improved base, but the remote was extremely difficult to switch back and forth from sound bar to the TV. I have to walk up to the sound bar to read the setting to make sure that proper setting has been achieved. Moreover there is a very annoying delay between the picture and the sound which varies with the channel being viewed.
In summary, I am very disappointed in the Samsung products! Avoid them if you can.

I was so impressed with the look and sound of this unit. Right before Thanksgiving, I bought it from Amazon to go with my brand spankin’ new 40-inch Samsung LCD television. Boy, we sure felt like posh big-city dwellers with everything up on our wall. It really made watching movies so much more like being in a theater! Until today. The DVD player quit working. I called Samsung’s customer service and was disconnected three times before I finally spoke with someone who tried troubleshooting it with me by phone. No such luck. Now the only choice I have is to ship it to the repair center in New Jersey. This is messing up our Christmas! I’ll come back and add to this review later if there’s anything else useful to report…
UPDATE, JANUARY 13TH: The unit arrived home on January 6th, and seems to work fine. I was annoyed, though, because Samsung sent me an automated email that the repair was complete on December 23rd. You’d think that they would have the courtesy to ship it FASTER, especially since it’s brand new.
UPDATE, AUGUST 25, 2009: I find myself turning this unit OFF during a lot of movies and relying on the audio from the TV itself because no matter how many adjustments I make, all the music and background effects seem to drown out the dialog. I think it might help if the bass unit had some volume controls — but I’m afraid I’m no audiophile, I’m just your average home viewer. Hope that helps someone.

Very disappointed about this product: after reading so many positive reviews of the Samsung HT-X810…
My remote doesn’t work and most of the basic functions, such as adjusting the bass, and editing the speaker directions are non-functioning…
High price for stereo theater+ sound I can almost obtain from my internal Samsung 650 speakers… without the $500.00+ price of new Samsung sound bar.

I purchased one of these at Costco. Unfortunately I had the same problem as other posters (wish I had read reviews before buying) with the DVD halting and skipping. I tried several DVDs to ensure it was the unit and not my disks. I returned the unit to Costo and will not replace this unit. It is too bad because it set up nicely with a matching Samsung LCD TV and sounded reasonably good (though I agree that the subwoofer is a bit strong). Sometime less is more and in this case it would have been better to skip the DVD rather than put out a device with an apparently high failure rate.
